This 3 days chimpanzee safari to Kibale leads you to chimpanzee capital known for accommodating the largest number of primate species. This chimpanzee tracking at Kibale is a prime chimpanzee experience in the East African region. The park is home to an estimation number of 1,500 chimpanzees which are distributed across 12 communities. The chimpanzees are fully habituated which ensures a close up experience on finding the chimpanzees.  On this safari expect to track the chimpanzees, birding watching, community visits, nature walks and Amabere ganyinamwiru caves.

The means of transportation is by road using the 4×4 land cruiser safari vehicle, every day of the trip starts with breakfast, has lunch en-route and ends as planned in the detailed itinerary. The trip is suitable for luxury, midrange and budget travelers.

Detailed trip

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park

Your driver guide will pick you from lodge/hotel in Kampala/ Entebbe for a drive to Kibale National Park. The trip goes to western Uganda using the Kampala- Mityana-Mubende-Fort Portal road, and the drive can last for about 6 to 7 hours depending on the traffic flow. Consider an en-route either at Mubende or Fort Portal for lunch depending on time.

Will reach at Kibale in the afternoon hours, will have a direct drive to Bigodi community which is only 6km from the park, and about 30km from Fort Portal. At the community will interact with the local, and realized how locals directly are involved in the conservation of chimpanzee and how they are benefiting from chimpanzee tracking adventure. It’s great idea you support their initiatives one way to support their conservation programs where they make variety of craft souvenirs among which you can also buy. Then, drive and check-in at your lodge, refresh, and rest for the next day.

Day 2: chimpanzee Tracking

This morning will drive Kanyachu center, it’s the tracking starting point, and at 7:30am will be briefed on the tracking etiquette. Get grouped 8 trackers to track a single habituated chimpanzee community, at 8am under the lead of an armed ranger guide will roll into the forest to search for the apes. The track can last between 30 minutes to 3 hours to find the tracked community, and on finding the chimpanzees there is an hour in their presence. This moment is like nowhere in the jungle, to find yourself in the midst of these human closest relatives. After an hour in their presence, will walk back to the starting point, find your driver and drive back to your lodge to relax and refresh.

Following lunch refreshments, in the late afternoon hours will consider a nature walk at Bigodi swamp at the edge of the park tracking several primates. Kibale National Park is a home to over 13 primate species besides chimpanzees, and these species include; baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, bush babies, mangebays, blue monkeys among others. On this nature walk will encounter greater forest residents including many bird species, duikers, bushbucks, forest elephants among others.

Day 3: Visit Amabere Cave and Drive back to Kampala

The last morning of the trip, will take an early and relaxed morning to Amabere cave which is an historical site for the legendary bachwezi dynasty. Visiting the caves, it’s an ambiance leading you into a waterfalls under caves and walk within the fumes of thundering waterfalls with legendary tales about the culture of the sites. .

Afterwards, will take a drive back to Kampala with lunch en-route at Mubende. Will reach Kampala in the late evening hours, and drop of will be at your hotel/lodge in Kampala/ Entebbe or at Entebbe International Airport for your next flight back home.
