They are very competitive and scarce most especially during peak seasons. Sometimes gorilla tracking permits get sold out four months in advance.
A gorilla permit is a document issued by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) or Uganda Wildlife Authority in Uganda to enable you to visit the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. A permit enables you to see gorillas for a maximum of one hour but the hiking itself can take a minimum of 2 – 6 hour looking for gorillas in the jungle.
In Uganda, a gorilla permit costs USD 700 per person for foreigners, USD600 for Foreign residents and 250.000 Ugx for Ugandans and East African residents. You can get the permits in Kampala (the capital of Uganda) at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) headquarters. We do organize and book gorilla permits for our clients at no extra costs provided you book a car or full tour with us.
In Rwanda, you can get gorilla permits through the Rwanda Development Board offices in Kigali at USD 1500.
You need to mind about the details of the gorilla permit because it will determine the gorilla family/group you will track and the lodge/accommodation where you will enjoy dinner and overnight from. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has four (4) sectors for gorilla trekking namely; Rushaga and Nkuringo in the south, Buhoma and Ruhija, and therefore, each sector has its own gorilla families/group and accommodations.
